The Warm Home Discount reduces your winter electricity bill by £140.

The Warm Home Discount is £140 put directly onto your electricity account for those who receive the guarantee element of pension credit.

Or you can also apply if you meet the following criteria:

One from list A and One from List B


  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Universal Credit
  • Or your gross annual household income is less than £16,190


  • Have Parental responsibility for a child aged 5 or under*
  • Child Tax Credit
  • Disabled Child Premium or Element
  • Disability, Enhanced Disability or Severe Disability Premiums
  • Disability Living Allowance (For an adult or child within the household) or Personal Independence Payments (PIP)
  • Long term Incapacity Benefit
  • Pensioner Premium, Higher Pensioner Premium or Enhanced Pensioner Premium

*To qualify for the Warm Home Discount Broader Group your child must have been under the age of 5 at any point between 1st April 2015 and 31st March 2016

How to apply to the broader group: this is distributed to the core group on a first come first served basis who meet the above criteria, applications are open from April but are confirmed year by year. Please check with your individual supplier as this is a guide only and may vary slightly from supplier to supplier. The supplier will provide you with information on how to apply.

Applications are reviewed in the winter time so you may not get a response stating whether your application has been approved or not. You may just receive the money at some point during the winter months (this will come directly on to your energy bill / in the form of a cheque).

Note: not all energy supplier distribute this grant so if you have received it in the past or think you may be eligible check before switching provider that you can still access this.
